Let's be honest dragging out your bulky vacuum cleaner can sometimes be a hassle especially if you only want to give your carpet a quick clean to remove some dog hair or a bit of dirt. A great alternative to that big vacuum is the carpet sweeper; it can be easily stored, it's lightweight, and it does a decent job at removing dirt, hairs, and fluff from your rugs or carpets.
The carpet sweeper isn’t a new invention, in fact, they have been around longer than the electric vacuum cleaner. Even the best carpet sweeper has been disregarded by many as being old technology, and don’t have a place in a modern home. Sure, there is an abundance of modern top rated vacuums with functions and features that (let's be honest) most of you will never use. Don’t get me wrong electric vacuum cleaners do a great job at keeping your carpets clean, but sometimes they can be overkill if you only want to spruce up your carpets in a hurry.
The carpet sweeper is now making a comeback and is winning over the hearts of those that have pets, live in small apartments or anyone that simply wants to keep their carpets clean like grandma once did. Sweeping carpets the old fashioned way using a manual carpet sweeper can yield great results, bringing life back to your once dirty carpets. The best carpet sweepers are light, quick and are perfect for sweeping up debris from rugs, carpets, and even hard floors without the need to bring out, plug-in and set up your regular electric vacuum cleaner.
In this article, I have gone out and handpicked some of the best carpet sweepers I could find. In my search, I was pleasantly surprised by how readily these floor and carpet sweepers were. There were types purposely made for cleaning hardwood flooring, some that were the best for picking up pet hair, and those that used a fuller brush to get deep into rugs and thick pile carpets.
Do You Need A Floor And Carpet Sweeper?
Before you go running out to buy a carpet sweeper first decide if this portable cleaner is the right choice for you. For anyone that lives in a small apartment with a lot of hardwood flooring or those of you that have cats or dogs running around the house the carpet sweeper is going to come in super handy. However, I wouldn’t want to use even the best carpet sweeper in a large house, unless you feel like a full body workout every time you clean your carpets. Still on the fence, whether you need a floor sweeper? Does the below sound like you?
- You want to be able to pick up pet hair quickly.
- You live in a small apartment with limited space and storage.
- Want a way to pick up debris from your hardwood floors.
- You can’t pick up heavy pieces of equipment such as bulky vacuums.
- Want to save energy and lower your electric bill.
If you answered yes to even one or two of the above, I think a carpet sweeper could be the best option for you.
Best Floor And Carpet Sweepers We Recommend
Many of the carpet sweeper reviews I have come across simply link out to Amazon and say that is the best carpet sweeper. For me and the others here at Vacuum Cleaner Buzz we like to get our hands dirty and even though we may not own all of the vacuums we still like to go out and see them in action in the local stores. So in my quest to find the best carpet sweeper I have handpicked some sweepers from a selection of sweeper brands that my local store stocked.
BISSELL Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper
After speaking with the sales guy, I was shown the BISSELL Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper. It was lightweight and super easy to use, and the sales guy was eager to show me how effectively it picked up crumbs and pet hair from his carpeted demonstration area. I must admit I was impressed, for something that didn’t require any electric it did a great job, the cat hair had been entirely removed, and to be honest, I often find regular vacuum cleaners can sometimes struggle to pick that up. You can read real reviews and more information on the BISSELL Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper at Amazon.
Shark Floor And Carpet Sweeper (Rechargeable)
After the sales guy had finished his one-man band of tricks and techniques with the BISSELL, he went away and returned with another carpet sweeper and quickly pointed out that this one was the best carpet sweeper for hardwood floors that they stocked.
The Shark Floor and Carpet Sweeper was one of the sweeper brands that was rechargeable using a combination of electric and human power to sweep and clean your carpets and floors. A couple of standout features that caught my attention were the 2-speed settings and its super quiet performance. The edge of the carpet sweeper also had cleaning squeegees that allow it to grab and collect any debris that is on the edge of your walls. If you want to know more about the Shark carpet sweeper head on over to Amazon.
Fuller Brush Co. Electrostatic Carpet Sweeper
The last carpet sweeper I was shown brought back memories of my Gran's house it’s like I had stepped back in time when I laid my eyes on this. The Fuller Brush Professional Stanley Home Carpet Sweeper does one thing sweeps carpets, and I can tell you it does a great job. The sales guy quickly threw down some paperclips and some cat hair, smiled and then proceeded to run the Fuller Brush carpet sweeper over the offerings.
To my amazement, the paperclips and cat hair had completely gone. I was so impressed; I decided to take the Fuller Brush home with me. You can find out more about the fuller brush carpet sweeper over at Amazon.
These carpet floor sweepers may not have all of the bells-and-whistles found on electric vacuum cleaners. But they still do a great job of bringing life back to your rugs, carpets, hardwood flooring. I was surprised by the selection they had at my local store, even though it was a small selection it just goes to show that the best manual carpet sweeper is still actively being used in today’s homes.
In my quest to find the best carpet sweeper I actually ended up with the Fuller brush carpet sweeper (it’s great!). The other manual carpet sweepers I mentioned above are also great options for any floor and they all did well in the tests carried out by the store clerk. However, it was the flashback of days gone by that made me take home the Fuller.
